The Experiment Instructions About VoiceXML About VoiceGenie About TTS The XML File

About this Experiment

This IVR (Interactive Voice Response) applications presents the navigation menu of the site (Artificial Life and other Experiments) in VoiceXML (see What is VoiceXML below), enabling to grasp the structure and content of the web site by using the phone.

IVR Usage Instructions

What is VoiceXML?

Voice eXtensible Markup Language (VoiceXML) is an XML-based markup language for creating distributed voice applications, much as HTML is a markup language for creating distributed visual applications. VoiceXML provides a standard interface between voice and the Internet. VoiceXML is designed for creating audio dialogs that feature synthesized speech, digitized audio, recognition of spoken and DTMF key input, recording of spoken input, telephony, and mixed-initiative conversations.

About VoiceGenie Developer

The VoiceGenie Developer Workshop is a group of tools, documentation, and other resources that allows anyone to design, develop and test his own voice-enabled, interactive phone application for free.

About TTS (Text to Speech)

All the texts you hear in this experiment are produced by a TTS (Text-to-Speech) engine. If you prefer to have the dialog with a woman, you can key 159101 when asked to enter the extension. Exactly the same texts will be spoken by a female voice.

About the XML file

The XML file represents the web site navigation menu. The same structure governs both the site's home page visual menu and the IVR menu in this experiment. In Microsoft Internet Explorer the displayed XML file is interactive. In Netscape a simple text file is displayed.
